Principles
Cloud Load Balancer (CLB) offers both Layer-4 (TCP, UDP, and TCP SSL) and Layer-7 (HTTP and HTTPS) load balancing to efficiently distribute traffic across multiple backend servers. This design eliminates single points of failure and ensures high availability for your services.
Built on a clustered architecture, CLB supports session synchronization to enhance system redundancy and reliability. It can also be deployed across multiple data centers within the same region, enabling intra-city disaster recovery and ensuring continuous business operations.
Infrastructure
Converge Cloud CLB provides comprehensive support for Layer-4 and Layer-7 load balancing.
- Layer-4 Load Balancing is powered by the unified Converge Gateway (CGW), which offers high availability, scalability, and performance, along with strong protection against attacks. Leveraging Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) for high-speed packet processing, CGW enables a single cluster to handle hundreds of millions of concurrent connections and tens of millions of packets per second (PPS). It serves as the access foundation for major Converge services such as Converge Games and Converge Video.
- Layer-7 Load Balancing is handled by the Secure Converge Gateway (SCGW), a custom solution built on Nginx to support high concurrency and scalability. SCGW manages a significant portion of Converge’s Layer-7 traffic, supporting high-demand services like Converge News and Converge Games.
Forwarding Path
CLB handles traffic distribution, while backend servers are responsible for processing business requests. Communication between CLB and real servers occurs over Converge Cloud’s private network, ensuring secure and efficient data transmission. Both CGW and SCGW are deployed in a clustered, multi-server architecture to deliver high-performance load balancing services with built-in redundancy.
