Managing the Instance Placement Groups

Last Updated At: 2025-11-26 15:01:34

Scenarios

If your instance is not added to a placement group, or if you want to change an instance that has been added to a placement group to another placement group, you can follow this document to do so.
This document describes how to add or change a placement group for an instance through the CVM console.

Prerequisites

  • You have created a placement group. For details, see Creating a placement group.
  • The quota of the placement group instances to be added or replaced is sufficient.

Must-Knows

  • Instances containing local disks can only be added to a placement group when the slave is created, and placement groups cannot be changed.
  • Instances that are shut down without charge do not support joining or changing placement groups.
  • Instances allocated on CVM Dedicated Host (CDH) do not support joining or changing placement groups.

Operation Steps

  1. Log in to the CVM console.

  2. On the "Instances" list page, select the instance row that is to be added or replaced in the placement group, click the More > CVM Configuration > Manage Instance Placement Group in the right Action column.

    Note:

To add or change placement groups in batches, select the instances to be added to or changed to the placement group, and click More Operations > Manage Instance Placement Groups at the top of the page.

  3. In the pop-up "Manage Instance Placement Group" window, set the following information.

    • Operation Type:
      • Remove: This operation will remove the virtual machine from its associated placement group. It will not affect the virtual machine's normal operation.
      • Replace/Add: Change the placement group to which the instance belongs or add it to a placement group.
    • Select the placement group you want to manage.
    • Set whether to change the host:
      • Allowed: The instance changes the host. During the replacement, the instance in the Running or Shutdown state is allowed to be restarted.
      • Not allowed: Instances are not allowed to change hosts and can only be added to the deployment set on the current host. This may cause the replacement of the deployment set to fail.
  4. Click Confirm to complete the management of instance placement groups.
