Terminating Instances

This document describes the overview and methods of terminating and releasing instances.

Overview

When you no longer need an instance, you can terminate it and the services running on the terminated instance will be terminated.

Related Impact

When an instance is in the terminateed status, the instance data, elastic IP, and billing are affected as follows:

  • Billing related: Once the instance status changes to being terminated or released, no charges will be incurred for the instance.
  • Instance data: The mounted local disk and non-elastic Cloud Block Storage will be released together, and the data cannot be recovered. Please back up in advance. The elastic Cloud Block Storage will follow its own life cycle.
  • Elastic IP: The elastic IP of the terminated instance (including the IP on the secondary network interface) will continue to be retained, and idle IP will incur fees. If there is no need to keep it, release it in time.

Terminating an Instance

Using Console to Terminate an Instance

When you no longer need the instance, you can choose to terminate the instance. At the same time, the services running on the instance will be completely interrupted.

After the instance is terminated , the local disk and non-elastic Cloud Block Storage mounted on the instance will be returned, and the data stored on the storage will be lost. Whether the elastic cloud storage mounted on the instance is released when it is terminated depends on whether you choose to terminate it together with the instance.

  1. Log in to the CVM Console.
  2. Select different instance termination operations based on actual needs.
  • Terminate one instance: In the list, find the instance you want to terminate and click More > CVM Status > Terminate on the right.
  • Terminate instances in batch: Select all instances that need to be terminated, and click More > Terminate at the top. Instances that cannot be terminated will display the reason.
  1. In the pop-up window, you can select Terminate Now or Scheduled Termination of instances.
    • Terminate Now: If you select immediate termination, you can choose to release the resources immediately or after a period of time. If you choose to release immediately, the data related to the instance will be cleared and cannot be restored. If you choose to release resources after a period of time, the instance will be moved to the Recycle Bin and will not be released until the expiration date.
    • Scheduled Termination: If you select scheduled termination, you need to set a scheduled termination time. After the expiration, the instance will be scheduled to be terminated and released, and the data cannot be restored.
  2. Select the termination method, then click Next Step: Confirm Termination to confirm the actual and related resources to be terminated and retained.
  3. Confirm the termination of resources, then click Submit.
