When creating a Cloud Virtual Machine on the cloud platform, the instance type specified by the user determines the host hardware configuration of the instance. Each instance type provides different computing, memory and storage functions. Users can select an appropriate instance type based on the scale of applications they need to deploy. These instance families consist of different combinations of CPU, memory, storage, heterogeneous hardware, and network bandwidth, giving you the flexibility to choose the appropriate resources for your application.
Instance Type
There are multiple types of cloud platform instance families, and the specific specifications are subject to actual sales. This document takes the standard S2 and the Cloud Bare Metal BMS5 as examples.
Instance Limits
- There is a limit to the total number of instances that can be launched in a region.
- There is a limit to the total number of system disks and data disks mounted to an instance. To ensure the IO performance of disks, the cloud platform has some restrictions on the size, quantity, and type of data disks purchased with the instance. Please refer to the disk matching module of the corresponding instance family. If necessary, you can purchase an independent Cloud Block Storage to circumvent the disk restrictions of instances.
- Please pay attention to the private network bandwidth capability corresponding to the instance specification, i.e., the upper limit of the maximum private network bandwidth of the instance specification. When the traffic of the private network exceeds the limit, random packet loss may occur in the the private network of the instance.
Standard instance family
Standard instances have a balance of computing, memory and network resources, and can meet the application resource requirements in most scenes.
Standard S2
Standard S2 instances are a newer generation of standard instances. Standard S2 instances offer balanced computing, memory and network resources, and they are a good choice for many applications.
Standard S2 instances adopt Intel® Xeon® Broadwell processors, which improve integer and floating-point computing performance by 40%; with DDR4 memory, the performance is improved by 30%; and the network sending and receiving capacity can reach up to 400,000 pps.

Application Scenario
It is used for small and medium-sized databases and data processing tasks that require additional memory, as well as cache clusters. It is also used for back-end servers running SAP, Microsoft SharePoint, cluster computing, and other enterprise applications.
Instance Requirements
- Supports launching S2 instances in the Virtual Private Cloud.
- S2 instances support purchasing configurations. Please refer to the instance specifications above.
- Make sure that the size of the S2 instance you choose meets the minimum CPU memory requirements of your operating system and applications. In many use cases, a larger instance size may be required for operating systems with graphical user interfaces that consume large amounts of memory and CPU resources (for example, Windows). As your workload has growing requirements for memory and CPU over time, you can scale up to a higher configuration or choose new instance types.
Standard BMS5
The standard BMS5 instance is the latest generation of Intel standard instance. It is based on the brand new generation of Cloud Bare Metal architecture and provides extreme computing, network, and storage performance through chip fast-path acceleration. There is no virtualization loss in computing performance, and nested virtualization is supported.

Application Scenario
Standard BMS5 instances can be applied to enterprise-level applications of various types and sizes; medium and large database systems, caches, and search clusters; scenes with high network packet transmission and reception, such as video barrage, live broadcasts, and games; and applications that are sensitive to single-core performance, such as video encoding and decoding and video rendering.
