Changing Public IP Addresses

Scenarios

This document guides you on how to change your public IP address. There are two ways to change the public IP address:

  • Directly change the public IP address
  • First change to an Elastic IP, then unbind the Elastic IP.

Must-Knows

If you select Directly change the public IP address, you should note the following:

  • Each account can change the public IPs of Cloud Virtual Machine (CVM)s in the same region a maximum of 3 times per day.
  • The public IP address of a single instance can only be changed once.
  • After the change, the original public IP address will be released.

If you select First change to an Elastic IP, then unbind the Elastic IP, you should note the following:

  • When an elastic IP address is bound to a Cloud Virtual Machine instance, the current public IP address of the instance will be released.
  • The quota for Elastic IP for a single account in a single region is 20.
  • To ensure effective use of IP resources, Elastic IP addresses that are not bound to instances are charged a small fee per hour.

Prerequisites

You have logged in to the Cloud Virtual Machine console.

Operation Steps

Method 1: Directly Change the Public IP Address

  1. On the Instance Management page, locate the CVM whose IP address you want to convert and click More > EIP > Bind EIP.
  2. In the pop-up box, confirm the information and click Confirm to complete the replacement.

Method 2: First Change to an Elastic Public IP, Then Unbind It

Changing to Elastic IP

  1. On the Instance Management page, select the row of the CVM whose IP is to be converted and click .
  2. In the pop-up Convert into EIP window, click Confirm.

Unbind the Elastic IP address

  1. After the conversion is complete, locate the CVM and click More > EIP > Unbind EIP.
  2. In the pop-up window, select "Free allocation of public network IP after unbinding (Note: This public network IP is randomly assigned and cannot be unbound from the instance.)", and then click OK.
  3. In the pop-up dialog box, click OK to complete the change.

Releasing the Elastic IP (Optional)

Note:

When an EIP is unbound, it remains under your account. To avoid being charged for unused idle IP addresses, it is recommended to perform the following steps to release any EIPs that are not bound to instances.

  1. In the left sidebar, click Elastic IP to enter the Elastic IP management page.
  2. On the Elastic IP management page, select the Elastic IP you just unbound and click Release.
  3. In the pop-up Release Elastic IP window, enter the Elastic IP address to be released and click Confirm.
  4. In the pop-up Prompt Box, click Confirm.
