Customizing Linux CVM Configuration

This document describes how to customize the configuration of a Linux CVM.
Different from the quick configuration, the custom configuration has complete options, and you can choose the appropriate configuration according to your needs.

Prerequisites

1. Log in to the cloud platform's official website and select Cloud Products > Cloud Computing & Networking > Cloud Virtual Machine.
2. Click Create to enter the Custom Configuration page of CVM.

Selecting Region and Model

1. Choose regions and availability zones. When you need multiple CVMs, you can choose different availability zones to achieve disaster recovery.
2. Select the model and configuration.
   The cloud platform currently provides multiple series based on the underlying hardware. The higher the instance family version, the higher the next generation (hereinafter referred to as old next-generation instance) and new generation instances ).
   For best performance, we recommend that you use a new generation instance type when you create instances. For a detailed description of instance types, see Instance Type Overview.

3. Click Next: Select Image to enter the Select Image page.

Selecting Image

1. Select an image provider.
   The cloud platform provides public images, custom images, and shared images. For users who are just starting to use the cloud platform, it is recommended to choose a public image.
2. Select your operating system.
   The cloud platform provides CentOS, Windows Server, Debian, and Ubuntu. You are requested to build the subsequent operating environment by yourself.
3. Select the system version.
4. Click Next: Select Storage and Bandwidth to go to the Select Storage and Bandwidth page.

1. Select the system disk size and data disk size.
   The cloud platform provides the following types. (The default system disk is 50 GB, and the system disk size can be selected)
   • Premium Cloud Disk
   • HDD Cloud Disk
   • SSD
2. Select a data disk.
3. Select whether you need a public IP and bandwidth.
4. Click Next: Set Security Groups and Hosts.

Setting up Security Groups and Hosts

1. Security Group: You can choose to create a new security group or use an existing security group.
2. Project: The project can help you solve the complexity of resource grouping and authorization management within a single cloud account.
3. Instance Name: You can choose to name it after creation or name it immediately.
4. Login Method:
   • Custom Password: Enter the host password settings.
   • Random Password: The automatically generated password will be sent through the message center.
5. Set whether to enable security reinforcement, cloud monitoring, and Automation Tools.
6. Advanced Settings (Optional):
   • The computer name of the operating system content.
   • Placement Group: Select as required.
     Note: If the instance type of the sub-machine you created is set by the administrator to not support placement groups, this feature is not available. If modification is needed, please contact the administrator.
   • Label: Select as needed.
   • Custom Data: Used to start the instance configuration, supports Shell format, and the original data cannot exceed 16 KB.

Confirming Configuration Information

After you confirm that the selected region, model, image, storage and bandwidth, and security group information are correct, you can activate it.
