Restoring Historical Version Objects

Overview

You can restore the historical version of an object to the latest version through the COS console. This document introduces how to restore a historical version of a bucket object in the console.

Note:

Restoring an object means restoring the historical version to the latest version while still retaining the historical version.

If you need to delete historical versions, see Setting Versioning and Deleting an Object operations.

The operation supports single-object restoration but does not support batch restoration.

The restoration is not supported for encrypted objects.

Note

The applicable scenarios and rules for restoring objects are as follows:

Applicable Scenario	Buckets with versioning enabled support object restoration. For a bucket that has versioning enabled and then paused, the object restoration is not supported. Buckets that have not enabled versioning do not support object restoration.
Restoration Rules	Historical version: Support restoration. Latest version: Cannot be restored. Version with deletion marker: Cannot be restored.

Prerequisites

Before restoring an object, make sure versioning is enabled for the bucket. If it is not enabled, see the documentation Setting Versioning.

Directions

Log in to the COS console.
In the left sidebar, click Bucket List to go to the bucket list page.
Find the bucket where the object is located and click the bucket name to go to the file list page.
Turn on the Show Noncurrent Versions switch, find the object you want to restore, and click Restoration.
In the Restore File dialog box, check the version information of the restored object. After confirmation, click OK.
After the object restoration is completed, you can see in the file list that the historical version has been successfully restored.
